Sudbury Police Interview of Steve Riess (2019-07-02)

Synopsis

Steve Riess is Ricky Riess's father. Ricky Riess is the person US DHS accused me of being and deported me to Canada as.

In 2019, in an attempt to prove I am Ricky Riess from Ontario, Canada, the BC Prosecution Service had the Sudbury Police (where Steve Riess lives) interview Riess to try to get evidence to prove I'm his son, Ricky Riess. This is that interview.

Of course, a simple DNA test would resolve the issue, conclusively, once and for all, but the BC prosecutors, the RCMP, CBSA, and US DHS all refuse to accept Riess's offer to do a DNA test - likely because that would definitively prove I am not Ricky Riess from Ontario, that the US deported me illegally.

In this interview, Riess starts out by positively identifying me (from my mugshot) as being his son Ricky Riess. I believe he was under the impression that's all he was there to do, because when the detective started asking follow-up questions, Riess became very agitated and flustered. And as the interview progresses:

Riess claims he has no photographs of his son and the only photos he has of me are what he's received from Desiree and the news media;
Riess claims he does not know any of the schools his son attended;
Riess claims he has not seen his son in about twenty years, and rarely saw him before that;
Riess repeatedly expresses significant dislike of me and of the US;
Riess admits all his information about me has come from Desiree and from what he's seen in the news;
Riess says he has pictures of me, on a USB drive, going back about twenty years - so around the time I met Desiree - but he has nothing from before that;
Riess admits to illegally providing his son's birth certificate to Desiree, to help her get me deported from the US to Canada;
it becomes clear that he completely and blindly accepts everything Desiree tells him, without question, even when the physical evidence proves otherwise.

Throughout the interview, Riess also repeatedly states all I had to do was "walk away", just never talk to Desiree again, and she'd be happy with that - with absolutely no regard to the harm and damage Desiree has caused, and continues to cause to mine and our son's lives.

Okay? So, um, it says this statement will take, will be taken under oath, or solemn affirmation, or solemn declaration, and will be videotaped, and audio taped. You must understand that it is a criminal offence under Section 139 and 140 of the Criminal Code to obstruct justice, or to commit mischief by making a false statement to the police during an investigation. You must further understand that you may be a witness at a trial concerning the events you describe in this statement, and if at any time you recant your statement, or claim it to be false, it can, and will be used at that trial and you may be liable to prosecution under Section 137 of the Criminal Code for fabricating evidence. Finally, you must understand that you're not obliged to give this statement, and if any person ah has by words or acts attempted to persuade you to provide it, you are to disregard those words or acts and only give the statement if you freely choose to do so. Being a grumpy, miserable old man who has had no involvement in his son's life but then is more than happy to provide the police a statement completely shit-talking that son? An old man who wasted his life on accomplishing absolutely nothing? Who pursued a meager existence as an automechanic but couldn't keep up with the technology and became obsolete? A man who spent his whole life in the same hillbilly town in Northern Ontario?

Well, if that's what it means to be Canadian, then no wonder I (and possibly his son) would want nothing to do with it.

And on what basis does he say the US is "the worst country"? It seems to me, if it were not for the US then Canada would collapse. If it were not for riding on the coattails of America's economic success, Canada would have no economy at all.

Actually, Peggy Sampogna (nee Pepin), passed away on 2017-12-22 Peggy Sampogna obituary. I don't know the cause or circumstances of death. I just happened across that obituary while doing some research.

I can't imagine how callous a man would have to be to not even realize the mother of his children has passed away. I mean, as much as I despise Desiree Capuano, I would still want to be aware of her passing. If nothing else, I would think that my own offspring (of which I just have the one) would let me know. In this case, Riess says he had two children with Sampogna/Pepin: Ricky Riess and a daughter, Cindy Riess. In this interview he claims he hasn't had contact with Ricky in about twenty years (which kind of makes sense since it's my understand Ricky passed away more than 25 years ago), and he talks all kinds of shit about Ricky; but what about the daughter? Does this mean his daughter also has nothing to do with him? If that's the case, then why? I mean, if all of your kids have nothing to do with you, then perhaps the problem is you, not your kids.

There's no question, Steve Riess is a miserable prick and a horrible excuse for a parent, but oh well.

Earlier, Riess stated that his son would have been about five years old when he and Pepin separated. If that's the case then his son should have been in school by that point. Now he's claiming when he and Pepin separated, his son was too young to have been in school.

Riess seems to be evasive on this topic. I think he doesn't want Scaglione asking further questions about Ricky's school attendance. It is my understanding that there were some periods where Ricky did live with Steve in Sudbury. And during those times, I would think that Ricky would have been in school. From what I've been told, there was a period of time when Ricky was 12 or 13, and again when he was 15 or 16, in which he lived with Steve for some time. That being the case, there should be school records for those periods.

I suspect Riess does not want to admit this because he doesn't want the police finding school records which may include school photos of his son, which may not resemble me.

Okay. And, um, so from that time did you speak to him often, or seldomly?

Off and on. He stopped in to see me one time, was ah travelling from B.C. to the states somewhere and he went around through Sudbury,

So, let's see, his son was in his early twenties (let's say from 21 to 23), so that would mean we're talking about 1994-1996.

In 1994 I was in college, studying computer science (or, if you believe Desiree's version of events, I was in Vancouver attending Sprott-Shaw College studying who-knows-what). In 1996, I graduated and started my career.

He was "travelling from BC to the States somewhere" and somehow that brought him through Sudbury, Ontario? Google Maps shows that BC is here; and Sudbury is here. There is absolutely nowhere you can get to in the US, from BC, which would bring you anywhere near Sudbury. Even if Riess's story was that his son was heading to the nearest US city, Sault St. Marie, MI, Sudbury is still another 200 miles (or about 3.5 hours) past that.

he was going to stay for a couple of days and it ended up being about two or three months you know. I finally said hey, it's time to get on with your life you know ah?

Ah, I'm not going to support you because I just ah, you know I've been alone so long I'm not looking to raise a kid anymore. He was already early twenties by that time and...

Wow! What a phenomenal dick! He had nothing to do with his son during his son's childhood, then when his son is in his early twenties, he travels to Sudbury to get to know his father and his father tells him "it's time for you to go; I'm not looking to raise a kid." Holy fucking shit!

If this was my father I would use him as the example of everything not to be as a parent. As of right now I've had no contact with my son since I was arrested in May 2016, but if my son ever showed up at my home, I would never turn him away; I would never tell him he has to go; he can sleep and my guest room and eat my groceries and use my car and borrow money for as long as he wants or needs.

And what the fuck is this jackoff talking about "...not looking to raise a kid anymore"? First, it seems to me he never raised his kids when they were actually kids. It seems, from what he's says in this interview, he had absolutely nothing to do with them for their entire lives. And second, he's talking about his son being in his early twenties - there's nothing to "raise" at that point, he's already grown. Granted, good parental or role model guidance and support is still extremely helpful in our twenties, but it's not like his son is still going to school and dependent on him for the basic necessities of life.

God damn, what a horrible, horrible, asshole this man is. No wonder he gets along so well with Desiree.

Oh come on! This is just like Desiree: offer unsolicited, defamatory anecdotes that can't possibly be proven one way or the other.

And what's amazing here is that doing something like putting a virus on his computer, for no apparent or legitimate reason, seems much more like the kind of vindictiveness Desiree would engage in, not me. Case in point: Desiree gets made because I say I don't think it's a good idea Gabriel to go to San Diego with her for a week, after only seeing her two times (after she was completely absent from his life for nine years). So what does she do? She abducts him, takes him to Arizona and lies to the family court that I'd been hiding him from her for nine years. Not becasue she wanted to be a parent to Gabriel - because she wanted to get back at me for not letting him go on that trip email dated 2012-02-08. And then, when that didn't work, she spends a year filing false allegations against me until, finally, I'm deported to Canada and she gets custody of Gabriel by default - again, not because she wanted to raise Gabriel, because she wanted to spite me. That's vindictiveness!

I seen him once when he was ah, about fourteen, fifteen? And we tried to put a relationship together but we didn't know each other from a hole in the ground so...

What a load of crap! This is just like something Desiree would say.

Except that if he really regretted it his whole life then why, when his son went to visit him in the mid-1990s, did he tell his son to move on, that he wasn't looking to raise another kid? You see, he's just making up whatever answers he thinks will make him look good, without regard for the fact that it contradicts what he said five minutes ago. Just like Desiree. And even now, he's claiming he's regretted all his life that he hasn't been there for his kids and so what's he do now? He completely takes Desiree's side against the person he's claiming is his son, and being completely critical of the person he's claiming is his son (of course, in reality, he knows I'm not his son and so he's not really talking shit about his son, he's talking shit about the person he believes stole his son's identity and treated Desiree so badly).

By saying this, he thinks he's creating the impression that he's willing to admit his mistakes and to accept the consequences of those mistakes. But admitting to a mistake you made 20 years ago, by saying you were young and stupid, doesn't show that you can admit when you're wrong. It's too long ago, too abstract, to removed from who you are now.

Riess is ackowledging that he and Desiree have been in contact for some length of time and that she is his source of information.

That, in itself, should strike the detective as odd. For a man to maintain a relationship with his ex-daughter-in-law, whom he's never even met, and then to openly and fully take her side in a dispute between his son and the ex-wife, while acknowledging he knows nothing of his son's side of the story and his only source of information has been the ex-wife? What kind of person does that? What kind of parent takes the side of his son's ex-wife and refuses to listen to his son's side of the story?

And later, Riess admits that I (actually me, not his son) did contact him in 2012 to discuss his support of Desiree. At that time he had no interest in hearing anything I had to say. So I mailed him a copy of all of the proof I had of Desiree's involvement in criminal activity and drug use; and about her abducting our son to another state. He makes no mention of that in here.

Because now he's saying this encounter was 15 to 20 years ago which would make it 1999 to 2004. But since Gabriel was born in 2000, I'm sure he's not suggesting it would be after that because that would mean I (pretending I'm his son and he's talking about me) would have brought Gabriel with me and I would think he would have mentioned that. And now he's talking about my niece? For me to have a niece that means I would have to have a sibling who had a female offspring. So for her to have a daughter old enough to marry (I beleive in Ontario, the age to marry is 16), she would have had to have given birth to "my niece" when she was nine years old. Riess acknowledges that he's made this offer, to provide DNA to determine parentage, multiple times already but that no one has accepted his offer.

Thousands and thousands of dollars have been spent by the Canadian authorities and many thousands more by US DHS, insisting I am the person who was born Ricky Riess in Sudbury, ON. Countless man-hours and resources have been put toward that. And all the while, one simple DNA test would prove the issue once and for all. There's no way I'd be able to continue claiming I'm not Ricky Riess from Sudbury, ON if there's a DNA test proving Steve Riess is my father.

But, at the same time, a DNA test that proves Steve Riess is not my father would irrefutably prove I am not the person that was born Ricky Riess in Sudbury, ON and therefore not the person the US deported me to Canada as, and not the person Canada allowed me to be deported as. And that, in itself, would not be a problem for them if I had been representing myself as Ricky Riess from Sudbury. Then the US and Canadian authorities could claim it's not their fault because I misrepresented myself as being that person. However, throughout my US deportation proceedings, and at every point since, I have insisted I am not Ricky Riess from Sudbury and I am not a Canadian citizen - it's the US and Canadian authorities who have been insisting I am Ricky Riess from Sudbury. So, DNA evidence that would prove I've been telling the truth all along and they're the ones that have been wrong, would be incredibly, incredibly embarrassing for them.

A negative DNA test would also prove I'm not guilty of the perjury and false claim of US citizenship I was convicted of in the US District Court in 2009 because the basis of that conviction was that I was actually Ricky Riess from Sudbury, ON.

And the fact that every US and Canadian authority adamantly refuses to have this DNA test done proves that they know the result would be negative. This is critical because it shows, again, that in Riess's mind it doesn't matter one iota what Desiree might have done to me or Gabriel. He can not and will not accept that she could possibly have done anything wrong. And when presented with the proof (as he already had been, in 2012) that she has consistently been the instagator and aggressor, he will block that out and refuse to look at the evidence. This seems to be an extremely common way of thinking in Canada.

Notice how Riess says, all I had to do was just never talk to her again and she would be happy. This guy must be completely fucking retarded! If a person kidnaps your child and you go after them to get your child back, and he kidnapper complains that you're harassing them and they can't understand why you don't just leave them alone - that's a reasonable analogy for what's going on here. To Riess and Desiree (Desiree being the kidnapper in this analogy), they can't understand why I'm so outraged about what she's done.

And just like the serial killer that honestly believes he's helping his victims by chaining them up in the basement and subsequently eating their liver and kidneys, Desiree and Riess actually believe that what Desiree did by abducting Gabriel then having me deported was the best thing for Gabriel. They are that fucked up in the head.

On the child support issue: 1) She did "go after me" for child support, when she abducted Gabriel to Arizona; and 2) when I lost custody of Gabriel (due to being deported), I promptly and consistently started making automatic, weekly payments to him in an amount much higher than the court would have ordered, and continued to do so until long after I was arrested and imprisoned in Canada. I bet Desiree never mentioned any of that to Riess.

And here you are stuck in doing it (chuckle).
